CHICAGO — Today, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot announced the process to identify a qualified candidate to become the next Alderman of Chicago’s 43^rd ward. Interested candidates must have lived in the 43^rd ward for at least one year prior to their appointment, demonstrate their passion for public service, and most importantly, have proven themselves to be someone who represents the 43^rd Ward community. 

"I want to thank Michele for her decades of service to the 43^rd Ward and the City of Chicago," said Mayor Lightfoot. "Michele is not only a champion for equity and good governance, but someone I consider a friend. While I wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life, I look forward to finding the best person possible to represent and serve the 43^rd Ward and move our city toward a more equitable future." 

As has been done in years prior for open Aldermanic seats, this process must be completed within 60 days. Starting on Friday, July 22^nd, interested candidates will be able to submit applications to aldermanicvacancy@cityofchicago.org or mail applications to City Hall, care of the 43^rd Ward Vacancy Committee. Applications are due August 5^th by 5:00 p.m. CT. Once applications close, the names and resumes of each applicant will be made publicly available, and a committee will begin reviewing each application thoroughly. 

Mayor Lightfoot is also seeking input from 43^rd Ward residents on their priorities for the ward and for their new Alderman. If you are a resident of the 43^rd Ward, please submit your feedback at the survey linked here.

Mayor Lightfoot will form a search committee to review applications, interview candidates, and make a recommendation on the final slate of candidates. A final candidate will be selected by Mayor Lightfoot. Once confirmed, the appointed Alderman will remain in place until the next Aldermanic election in 2023.
