Smart Streets

Smart Streets

  • The City will use existing infrastructure and new technology to implement Smart Streets, which will encourage safe driver behavior and improve parking compliance with the goal of reducing crashes and pedestrian and cyclist fatalities.
  • Smart Streets will also help ensure that Chicago’s growing network of bike lanes and bus lanes are working to their full potential.
  • The initial launch of Smart Streets will include bus lane and bike lane violations. Parking meter violations will be implemented on or around the end of 2024.
  • Starting November 2024, the City will begin a 30-day warning period, during which registered vehicle owners will receive mailed warnings for infractions. In December 2024, enforcement will shift to issuing a warning notice for the first offense, followed by fines for additional violations.

The Pilot Area is within the boundaries of Lake Michigan to Ashland Avenue and from North Avenue to Roosevelt Road.
