Chicago's Governmental Ethics and Campaign Financing Ordinances were amended in July and August of 2004.  The Ethics Education Newsletters linked in the archive below were published prior to those dates.  The changes to these laws affect the restrictions on, among other things, political activities, gifts, public disclosures, employment of relatives, contractors, and outside business and employment activities.  Therefore, some of the information contained in the archived newsletters is obsolete and should not be relied upon by anyone for legal guidance.  The newsletters are available and maintained through this site for historical reasons only.  Persons who wish authoritative guidance should consult directly with the Board of Ethics.
