Gospel music has ages-old history and traditions. But once gospel met Chicago, it was never the same again. Chicago’s Gospel Truths at the Chicago Cultural Center tells this unique musical story through a display of historic photographs and original artifacts. Legends of Chicago gospel including Thomas A. Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson, Sallie Martin and many other remarkable composers and performers are represented by rare original phonograph records and vintage sheet music – some tellingly tattered by years of inspirational use.
