Teen Vaping and Smoking Cessation

Empower Vape-Free Youth

Who We Are

CDPH's Anti-Teen Vaping Program seeks to reduce the use of vaping/e-cigarettes and tobacco products among Chicago teens. CDPH focuses on decreasing teen access to vaping/e-cigarettes, increasing access to smoking cessation programs and promoting a vape- and smoke-free environment.

What We Do

CDPH provides free smoking cessation services via partner organizations and prioritizes communities with high smoking rates.

CDPH also inspects establishments such as schools, restaurants, apartment complexes, office buildings, and other public spaces for compliance as part of the Chicago Clean Indoor Air Ordinance and Smoke-Free Illinois Act.

There are lots of benefits to a vape-free life.

Emerging evidence demonstrates a link between quitting vaping/e-cigarettes and improvements in mental health symptoms. Truth Initiative survey data show support for this link between quitting nicotine-containing e-cigarettes and improved mental health outcomes.

90% of those who quit said they felt less stressed, anxious, or depressed.

47% of respondents who quit vaping reported that when they quit vaping they felt more in control.

Quitting smoking has also been associated with reduced depression, anxiety, and stress, as well as improved positive mood and quality of life compared with continuing to smoke.

Early studies suggest that some chemicals present in e-cigarette aerosols may increase the risk of certain illnesses such as heart disease or cancer, but additional studies on long-term health effects are needed.
