Breast Examination and Mammogram
Regular physical checkups not only ensure overall health but they are also very important for detecting breast and cervical cancer at their earliest stages.
Breast screenings are recommended every year for women 40 and up and once every three years for women age 20-30.
CDPH provides free breast exam and mammogram services through the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP).
A woman is eligible for services if the following criteria are met:
- 40-64 years of age (for breast cancer screening services)
- You do not have insurance
- You are underinsured
- You are not receiving services through Medicare Part B
Women who are younger than the above categories and have symptoms (i.e. breast lump identified by a Clinical Breast Examination, history of abnormal pap tests, etc.) may be enrolled in the IBCCP. They must meet insurance guidelines.
The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) is available at neighborhood health centers to pay for services.
