Board publishes draft amendments to its Rules + Regulations and seeks public comment
By vote at it May 2025 meeting, the Board is publishing proposed amendments to its Rules and Regulations. These draft amendments, among other things: (i) bring the Rules into conformance with recent changes to the City’s lobbying laws, and update pronoun usage; (ii) account for the elimination of the former Office of Legislative Inspector General; (iii) streamline the process for Board’s written notices to persons subject to its jurisdiction; and (iv) add a Rule enabling the Department of Law to settle matters the Board refers to it after an investigation by the Office of Inspector General, and after the Board has assessed fines for violations of the Governmental Ethics Ordinance after it has met with the subject(s) of that investigation, pursuant to §§2-156-385 and -392.
The Board seeks public comment on these proposed amendments for a period of one month, until the Board’s June 16, 2025 meeting. Please submit all comments to our Executive Director via email, at steve.berlin@cityofchicago.org before June 13, 2025. The Board will consider all comments, and approve a final draft to be submitted to the City Council at its June 16, 2025 meeting. The Board will then submit the approved final draft to the City Council. By law (§2-156-380(h)), the revised Rules and Regulations would become effective 45 days after that submission, unless the City Council, by majority vote, votes to disapprove them. To read the draft amendments, please see this [draft amendments to its Rules + Regulations].
